2007 Golf Trip – Woodlake Golf Resort (Tazwell, TN)

DAY 1

This year marked our 12th Anniversary for the golf trip.  We started our caravan around 11:00 AM down through Kentucky on our way to the first destination – Wasioto Winds Golf Course, located in Pineville, KY.  When we hit Pineville it started pouring rain.  We got to Wasioto around 3:00 PM and the rain stopped allowing us to golf our first round of the trip.  The course was really wet though and a lot of high scores were posted.  The course was pretty nice though and many of us want to play it again (under dryer conditions).

After the round of golf, we headed to Woodlake and got there around 9:00 PM.  Everyone got situated in their condos and the card playing and beverage began!  For the first night, several people stayed up pretty late, up to around 2:30 AM.

DAY 2

Round 1 of the tournament began today and it was our first opportunity to take our hacks on the Woodlake Golf Course.  The course was really nice with several nice and big homes lining the fairways.  The greens were well protected by lots of sand traps.  There was some water on the course but nothing like Wasioto Winds.  We ended up playing from the Blue Tees (handicap 6-12), and was probably not the best thing to do for our group.  We had based it off playing the same yardage at Pine Valley the year before, around 6200 yards.  Playing from the Blue Tees did make it much more challenging for everyone but the yardage markers didn’t help either.  Many of us questioned the yardages of the holes as it seemed to play longer.

JD shot the low round of the day with an 81.  After lunch we played 3-man scramble with the entire group of 15 guys.  Everyone really enjoyed the 3-man scramble and the scores were all really close around par.  Rex, Jimmie and Rath won the scramble at -1.

After the second round of golf we headed back to the condos.  For dinner we had the traditional pork tenderloin, and this year Wade included salad and rice with it.  The meal was as usual, DELICIOUS.  Wade out did himself again preparing a great pork tenderloin meal!  Afterwards, we started playing cornhole, throwing football, cards and more adult beverage drinking into the late night.

DAY 3

Round 2 of the tournament began with an overcast morning.  Light showers came down off-and-on, and the temperature was even a little chilly early on.  JD shot another low round of the day with a 71 beating Ben by 6 strokes who shot a 77.  This was JD’s final round of the tournament since he had to leave early and it put JD at -9 for the tournament.  For the scramble, we decided to play from the White Tees this time as we played with three 4-somes and one 3-some.  The scores for this scramble were MUCH lower as with the help of JD, himself, Bart, Wade and ??? went on to shoot a -14.

For dinner we had grilled chicken with green beans, corn, rolls and salad.  Once again the food was awesome!!  This was JD’s last evening on the trip as well as he had to bolt early the next morning.

DAY 4

Round 3 of the tournament began in the morning and afterwards it was decided that no one had a chance to beat JD, so we all decided to either play in a scramble or just shoot a regular round from the White Tees.  Ben, Sam, Jimmy, and Brian played a regular round from the White Tees with a couple games mixed in, Lefty-Right and Snake.  Brian ended up losing about $30 for Lefty-Righty and Sam missed a “gimme” putt to take Snake honors at the end of the round.  The remaining golfers played a scramble, except for Carmen who had left after Round 3 on his way to Louisville for the Police concert.  The scramble winners were Rex, Denny and Mark at -6.

For dinner we had steak, vegetables, corn, rolls and salad.  Sammie did a good job on the steaks!  Then the Bart show began as we started to enjoy the antics and singing, and whatever else of Bart.  Bart was eating EZ-Cheese on his corn on the cob, his marshmallows, plain, etc.  He was singing everyone liked male wieners
